All classes are given at 2208 Golden Hills Road, Paso Robles

 Winter and Spring 2008

WATER MEDIA  John Barnard Tuesdays, starting Jan 8         9:00-12:00 + Critique $10 per class, paid monthly

Barnard’s watercolors and oils have been shown in museums and galleries all over the United States, in one man shows, and have won many awards.  He enjoys painting and hopes to encourage class members to paint boldly and have fun.  Come and learn how to get the most fun from your water media work – watercolors, acrylics or water soluble oils.  This is a continuing class that can be repeated so that your skills keep growing.

DRAWING        Bill Halopoff         Thurs, Fri and Sat, February 28, 29 & Mar 1          9:00-5:00                        $150

In the first classroom day students will learn various methods for developing a sketch, study the use of value, and learn how to develop textures.  The following day will be spent sketching and drawing in the field.  On Saturday, in the classroom, students will continue developing the sketches done in the field and start a finished rendering.

PORTRAITURE IN WATERCOLOR       Wendy Ponds   Wed, Thurs and Fri, Mar 19, 20 & 21    10:00–4:00            $120       LINK TO MORE INFORMATION

This portrait workshop is for artists wanting to learn expressive portraiture in drawing and watercolor with time and opportunity for individual attention from the instructor. Learning to get a likeness by developing observation skills and comparing relationships within the face will start off this two day study.  Demonstrations in watercolor are intended to inspire artists who will be encouraged to complete at least one watercolor portrait by the third day.

WATERCOLOR              Tom Fong         Thurs, Fri and Sat, Apr 10, 11 & 12                   10:00- 4:00        $170

We are so excited to have Tom Fong come to Paso Robles to teach this workshop!  He is the past President of Watercolor West, a renowned painter, and great teacher. This workshop will encourage students to paint free and loose through the creative spirit of intuition and improvisation.  . Tom paints in a semi-abstract manner, wet-into-wet, working loosely with fresh paint and bold strokes.  He lets chance and improvisation take its course, maintaining the white of the paper to intensify his limited palette. He refines the painting with washes of shadow patterns and the application of calligraphic brush strokes to create excitement and interest, always keeping balance and harmony in mind. The class will paint outside when weather permits.

COLLAGE                     Lynn Kishiyama                       Sat and Sun, May 3 & 4           10:00 – 4:00                  $150

This two day workshop will explore color theory, principles and design elements.  You will use these elements as a foundation for planning and creating your dynamic collage on Sunday. This session focuses on the materials and techniques used to create the effect you desire. Your creativity and passion will be rewarded when you complete several original, ready to frame, collages during this informative, action packed and fun workshop.  While living in Japan, Lynn became fascinated with the colors and textures of “Washi” (handmade Japanese papers).  She has continued to use Washi (and her memories of Japan) as her creative medium.

PAINTING WITH NATURAL LIGHT          Joy Krull                      Tue, Wed, Thurs, June 3, 4, 5.  9:00 – 4:00        $165

This workshop is designed to help painters learn from and take advantage of outdoor light in creating their work.  We will paint from varied subjects including floral, still life, landscapes and figures.  We will solve problems regarding changing light, color and value judgments, editing your composition, using varied edges and creating a center of interest.  The demonstrations at the beginning of each session will be short and executed in oils, but the information will apply to any media.. Sites will be selected that make outdoor painting without expensive equipment possible.

SILVER CLAY JEWELRY  Dot Ringer       Wed, Thurs, Fri, July 16, 17, & 18                      9:00 – 12:00          $50

Creating jewelry from silver clay and glass cabochons can be frustrating but yields wonderful results.  And is fun! This workshop is intended for the beginner in this medium.  Handling the clay will be taught and then basic methods of forming (rolling, texturing, coils, extrusion from a syringe) will be taught.  We will make two pieces during the 3 half day sessions.  Silver clay materials will cost about $60 but the glass cabochons will be donated by Dot.
